The Freeing of the Muse

This painting was done in response to the use of the female image in art. The muse is historically a female spirit or person who inspires the male artist to create work. Then, it is the male who is creator as well a recipient of credit and praise for the work. Here the muse has freed herself from the artist (me) to become creator herself.
